Apple’s September 10 Event Date For Next iPhone Gets A Strong, If Unofficial Confirmation

TechCrunch

If you’re in the habit of scheduling time off for key Apple product unveilings, it’s pretty safe to book September 10. The date was floated this weekend by AllThingsD for a press event and official unveiling, and now The Loop’s Jim Dalrymple has confirmed that date. Dalrymple, apart from being the father to an amazing beard, is also maybe the single-best informed outside source regarding Apple’s product event plans.

The date for the event will put it on a Tuesday just at the start of September, as AllThingsD reported. ATD itself is a pretty solid source, so there was little doubt that would be the day, but Dalrymple’s confirmation essentially makes things official – without, you know, actually making them official.

We’ll probably see the iPhone 5S at this event, which by all reports would look a lot like the iPhone 5 but might pack some improvements including a…

Ti prego, lasciati mandare al macero

Scrivi qui i tuoi pensieri… (opzionale)

Bitcoin Clampdown Continues As Federal Judge Says It’s A Currency

TechCrunch

Wikipedia calls Bitcoin a cryptocurrency (a currency that relies on cryptography), but now it’s official. A federal judge in Texas has declared that Bitcoin is a currency and should therefore be regulated just like U.S. dollars or gold. The ruling represents yet another attempt to regulate Bitcoin transactions, threatening the original purpose of the currency.

While it looks like a recognition that Bitcoins are worth something, the decision threatens once again Bitcoin’s utopian concept. As a reminder, the Department of Homeland Security recently issued a seizure warrant on Bitcoin exchange service Mt. Gox because it didn’t comply to money transfer regulations.

Today’s decision goes in the same direction. BTCST, a Bitcoin-based hedge fund, claimed that “the BTCST investments are not securities because Bitcoin is not money, and is not part of anything regulated by the United States,” wrote Judge Amos Mazzant. She then stated the exact opposite of BTCST’s defense:

Jeff Bezos To Acquire The Washington Post For $250M

TechCrunch

Yes, you read that right. The Washington Post Company just announced that it has reached an agreement to sell its newspaper publishing business to Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos for $250 million.

“I, along with Katharine Weymouth and our board of directors, decided to sell only after years of familiar newspaper-industry challenges made us wonder if there might be another owner who would be better for the Post (after a transaction that would be in the best interest of our shareholders),” said Post Chairman and CEO Donald Graham in a press release. (The Graham family has owned a controlling stake in the Post since the 1930s.) “Jeff Bezos’ proven technology and business genius, his long-term approach and his personal decency make him a uniquely good new owner for the Post.”

In the same release, Bezos promises that “the Post’s values will not change.” He has supposedly asked Post CEO…
